The one-two punch: SupportR/Cafe Corazon

You can probably find all sorts already written about Wishon Row. It was one of Mike Oz' 20 things things to enjoy in 2011. So I'll try not to retread on all that.

BUT: I had lunch on the row yesterday and it was one of those great experiences that makes me appreciate Fresno in the way I appreciate other cities when I visit them.

Get this: Hit up SupportR, because A: I love it, and B: I heard they had tomato bisque and I love me some creamy tomato soup. In this case it was wonderful, and came with croutons (in the soup) and gorgonzola cheese, which gave the thing a nice kick of sweetness and made me happy. Usually, I have the BLT, which I described to the owner Mary as "so good I could eat it every day for the rest of my life." That's hyperbolic, but also sort of true.

Afterwards it was down to Cafe Corazon for a cup of coffee. Confession: I haven't been to Cafe Corazon more than once since they opened the new shop. For shame, I know! Anyway, this time I let Liz choose what type of coffee they brewed for me (and now I forget what it was).

Here's the thing about Cafe Corazon and why you will love it (or hate it if you are that type of person): this isn't a coffee-run experience. If you order a cup it's going to be single-brewed (just for you) and that is going to take awhile. It's totally worth the time, but if you're one of those people who can't take a moment to breathe every now and again, it may be off putting. If you have the time (and let's face it, we all do) you get to chat with Leo and whomever else is waiting around, which is a reward in itself. Add in the coffee (duh) and it's an experience you can't get anywhere else in town.

As a plug, Cafe Corazon is having a Coffee and Cigar event this weekend.

Dear ♥Fresno Famous♥,

Please help us save the life of my precious friend, and saviour of California, Marla.

Marla is the witness to the City of Fresno's 50 year secret water diversion operation. With your help, we need to blow it wide open to the public! This is the Case Of The Century!

The mob has cornered Marla by hacking into her computers, listening in on her telephone calls, and giving her only weeks left to live. I believe that God has let her live this long, for a good reason.

If Marla goes without the public watching, she will take the evidence with her. We cannot allow the secret water diversion operation to spread outside to the rest of California. We must not allow it!

The criminals are former employees of the City of Fresno. They have turned Fresno into a mob, so that their city workers and police are not to be trusted. For now, assistance must be given from outside of Fresno!

For complete information, please visit Marla's Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=703340582

Marla wants to say: "Since I am so closely monitored, I hope my group does not intercept and try to sabotage things. I know how convincing they are - including the city employees in Swieso's pocket. Nothing they say should be believed.
Behind the lies and altered records is the Case of the Century. I guarantee it."

Fresno Famous, I give you my assurance that all I wrote is 100% true. I am completely behind my dear and loving friend, Marla.

Thank you Fresno Famous.

Hugs

My take on this is tainted by the fact I know the owner some and have only had pleasant (and tasty) experiences there.

That said: Being out of soup is a good thing, yes? It means someone is buying the soup! The problem is, you didn't get to. That's a question of supply and demand -- which probably varies wildly from day to day. If the place is operating on a tight profit margin, making too much food (and having it go to waste) is probably less appealing than running out of food (there were other things they could have made, yes?). It's a problem, and one that should be addressed, but it's a bit dramatic to say that THIS is the reason that good restaurants don't survive in Fresno or that SupportR is not worth the time.

I do however appreciate and understand your frustration and your decision to not go there again.

Ok, so the first time I went to SupportR I also thought they were good. But since Christmas I have been THREE times, and each time they had run out of this great soup mentioned above. In each case it was before 1pm and today it was only 12:30!!! I am done. I won't be back. This is why good restaurants don't survive in Fresno.

SupportR is not worth the time.
