SEGA: The same ole' song and dance?
UPDATE: You want to know what went down RE:SEGA at this week's council meeting? There was debate. A lot of debate, apparently. Hour's worth. In the end, the council gave the mayor's office 30 days to come up with a response. Here is the Bee's newsy version of events, followed by a funner (funner?? that is so a word, yeah?) version in the comments at the SEGA FB page.
It looks like some members of the Fresno City Council are looking to gun down The South East Growth Area plan at this week's meeting.
The council's Finance and Audit Committee (members Lee Brand, Andreas Borgeas and Blong Xiong) is putting forth its recommendations on SEGA. Those recommendations include suspending further city work and investment on the plan, and (oddly enough) initiating a West Fresno Growth Plan.
To which I say, "huh?"
I'm no expert on the issue (if someone is let them please chime in), but the whole thing seems a bit backwards to me.
And I am not alone. Council member Larry Westerlund sent out an e-mail this morning asking for people to write, e-mail and call councilmembers Borgeas, Brand and Xiong (and the rest of the council for that matter) to show they care about the plan and its continuation. Though the wording says "suspend" Westerlund feels the recommendations will essentially kill SEGA and "consequently our best opportunity to do real Smart Growth planning in Fresno."
Also, a SEGA group has been set up on Facebook for those who want more information, or to support the plan.
