If you haven't seen it yet, you should click over to George Hostetter's post on uptown. It's lengthy, but there are pictures, so don't freak out. It starts as an inside look at Reza Assemi's Broadway Lofts project (my new home), and turns into an almost block-by-block look at the entire area, following the assertion that redevelopment there has been helped by its geography.
On a side note: Does anyone know where Uptown came from? Is that any kind of official designation? What sets Uptown apart from South Tower/Cultural Art District/Mural District? The Bee seems to have adopted the term and are using it with some regularity, but they could be referencing a specific area within a large swath of downtown.

There needs to be a Weird Fresno district.
Seriously, the name uptown sounds so damn bland. At least with the names Cultural Arts District or even the Mural District you know what was going on.
Why don't we just rename Tower District Midtown while we are at it?
I'm guessing "Uptown" must have some historical context for the Bee. I really only see George using it, or other Bee writers (and I guess on that newfangled Facebook page).
But as George describes it, Uptown has the same defined boundaries as the Cultural Arts District and Mural District, so it's looks like we've got three names for the same place!
