Fresno Famous

You are the only person who's completely certain there's nothing here to be into.

One of my favorite Friday night activities in Fresno is attending the Fresno Filmworks Film. Sure, it’s only once a month, but it’s always a treat.

Fresno Filmworks, along with other awesome-sauce things, is steadily making it a bit harder for you to cringe when you tell your cool bay area or Los Angeles friends that you’re, “from Fresno.” Do you somehow not know about Arthop? How about Soulflower Group events like Sunday Brunch at Veni Vidi Vici, or ah-hem, did you actually miss the Prince Tribute Party last weekend? FUSE Festival – shake your ass to a couple dozen local bands? Yes, please. Have you experienced an h&s gallery Pop-up Show? Or the steady flow of Creative Fresno antics, like the blenders, bartender challenges, and PechaKucha? I hear a gang of smarty-pants folks get together at the Landmark for Pub Quiz every Wednesday. You can’t tell me you didn’t hear about or, at least attend ONE Rogue Festival show. Do I need to remind you of the super-fun that IS Meatball Magic, or are you already that in-the-know? How about insta-famous new venue Fulton 55? Were you there getting sweaty with Fierce Creatures a couple weeks back? Why haven’t I seen you in the long line on Wishon Avenue Thursday nights just outside of Café Corazon & Twee Boutique, waiting to shovel Dusty Buns yummy fare into your face? Look at all of that! That’s just what I could drum up in ten minutes whilst procrastinating on school work.

Oh, and before you get crabby-pants that I have left out your event, keep in mind 1.) I am in a hurry 2.) These are all activities I have attended or regularly attend 3.) These events also involve a ton of my friends (or friends of friends) so of course I am going to support them! You can support your friends TOO. That’s the beauty that is FRESNO FAMOUS, it’s a community site, meaning you can write articles about all the equally awesome things you and your friends are working hard to do to make Fresno a city you want to be in!

So! Back to my point:

The folks at Fresno Filmworks rule, and in case you somehow did not know this yet, they’re making it super easy for you to find out just how hard they rule by providing you with an entire weekend of films! What? I know! They've done this great thing for Fresno for seven straight years now.  In my (failed) attempt at brevity with this post, I am going to go ahead and let the folks at Dumb Drum sum things up for you. Do your eyeballs and ears and heart a favor and make your way to the Tower Theater Friday April 1st - Sunday April 3rd. The refreshments are always great – usual movie snacks like chocolate covered things, and a fine beer and wine selection for a couple bucks a cup. Bring your honey and cozy up with a film or two, or sixteen. And don’t be silly, after you fall in love with the film festival, return each second Friday of the month and fall in love all over again.

You’re welcome.

{Disclaimer: I am a member of h&s gallery and local photog, I am best friends with a Fresno Famous writer, I live in the in-law apartment of a Creative Fresno board member, I have lunch once a week with Ms. Soulflower, I am a regular volunteer for F.U.S.E. fest, I have presented at PechaKucha, I have danced at Meatball Magic, Leo & Liz of Cafe Corazon know which tea I like best, I regularly smear the Dusty Buns 'Veg Out' sandwich all over my face, I have Pub Quiz-ed, and I do love good film.}

{Disclaimer No. 2: Things that are also awesome - Attending Reel Pride, Roller Derby bouts, and The Jacuzzi Comedy Showcase. You should also eat at Chalotte's Bakery, The SupportR, The Frosted Cakery and of course Iron Bird Cafe. There's so much to do, now go do it.}
