The Fresno Fair just announced it is kicking off its 2nd Local Performance Contest (if you remember last year's contest featured six local bands including HR7, Mecury Bullet and Say Swear).

Entries can be submitted starting today, right now. Bands (and solo artists/rappers/etc.) can submit music videos or audio files with photos at www.FresnoFair.com. Check there for all the contest particulars, including how the final acts will be chosen.

From a certain point of view, I am not a fan of these kinds of contests. While competition is healthy and good, it doesn't always foster community (or artistic creativity) and typically these types of events fall short of representing the scene (if any event could). I would rather see a showcase currated by a local promoter (or someone else "in the know").

Then, that's no reason to NOT support this. In fact, I'd like to see more bands involved, to have more submissions and more voting. So, tell all your favorite bands they need to get on it, ASAP. And then, go vote for them.

As a bonus, here's a song about the Fresno Fair, done by some locals.
