Voting is now open for The Fresno Bee's 2012 People's Choice Awards. As in past years, it's a terribly long list that includes lots of stuff I don't care/know about (best appliance store).

That's OK, you don't have to fill in every category.

It will be interesting to see if the current state of the world (Occupy Wall Street, etc.) will  have an affect on the final tallies. In the past the awards have been kind of big-box stores and corporations (I am thinking best bank).

Anyway, as a means of shout-out, here's how we voted in a few of our favorite categories. Feel free to share you own.

* Best Art Gallery: Hide and Seek Gallery

Not an actual gallery as such. It's "a collective of artists pooling resources under an atypical gallery space, a web-based space with low overhead costs, a platform that is viewable worldwide and a space with a never-ending state of flux." Anyway, super cool stuff.

* Best Coffeehouse: Cafe Corazon

Not an actual coffee house as such. The place does on-site roasting of specialty beans. You can get a single cup (in fact they'll be adding an espresso machine inthe next few weeks), but mostly they sell in bulk to enjoy at home. And enjoy you will, you tweaker fiends you.

* Best Yoga Studio: Yogo at the Dojo

If you've never been into Aikido of Fresno, it's a beautiful, tranquil place, perfect for doing a little downward facing dog (sorry, that's the only pose I know).

* Best Car Wash: Wayne's Mobile Car Detail (hmmm, couldn't find a link, sorry)

I've never actually had my car washed by Wayne, but I know him and I'm sure he does excellent work. As a bonus, he'll come to you.

* Best Women's Fitness Center:  Curves

I've never actually worked out at Curves. I'm a man. But my mom is a member and loves it. Seriously changed her life.
