Nearly twice as many Dems voted tuesday

As of Thursday, Feb 7 with 99% of California Precincts reporting, nearly twice as many Democrats voted in this Primary than did the Republicans. That is a significant number and reveals an energized electorate. I believe we are motivated by the events in politics over the last 7 years. Namely, it is the extreme displeasure of the electorate with the incompetence of the Bush administration and his corrupt cronyism. “Heck of a job, Brownie.” Bush said yesterday that he is praying for the victims of the deadly tornadoes in the South. And that he is sending FEMA down there to help out. I imagine they should be seeing them arrive there sometime early next year. Maybe he can give them a tax cut, too. That should help out a lot with all the loss of life and property.

Clinton 2,107,758
Obama 1,717,681
Others 234,274
total 4,059,713

McCain 975,363
Rominey 790,515
Huckabee 268,622
Others 290,163
total 2,324,663

Republican Governors?

Makes you wonder why we've had more Republican Governors, if there are more Democrat voters than Republicans voting.

re: huckabee

dont sweat it 'noise.

Huckabee is actually a decent sort, (he's a preacher, yes, -but seems to be a man who likes to stand upon the principles that he preaches, is honest, is conservative, and if you lived next to him? Probably would find yourself talking to him over the back fence about whatever...

I get the impression, if your dog got lost? And he found it? He'd bring it over, and be like, '...um, somebody got lost here, and I figure'd you'd be missing 'm, here ya go.'

I guess you'd be neighbors ...
Well, that's if you had the tons-o-bucks that he has (going for him,) and you're McMansion was next to his...
(...maybe he'd be the sort of guy, who when you rumbled up in the rolls next to him, and said '...excuse me, do you have any grey poupon?'
-would respond,
'...sure thing bud, and here's a nice croissant to go with it, you be good now...'

It would be nice to see him get in, (seriously,) but I don't get the impression he's taken all that seriously by the broad swath of voters.

In order to run for pres. you have to have a ton of money behind you... these aren't 'average joes,' in some respects, (though I remember newspaper coverage of the Clintons shopping at Wal-Mart before they sent their daughter off to college.)

Strangely enough?

When I told a friend of mine at work (who hates McCain,) that McCain was going to be his guy, probably? He was just flat:
'...I don't think I"m going to vote this year then...'

(odd response.)

thanks 'noise

so, for every registered republican (likely to vote) there are 1.1 democrats (likely to vote) (43% / 36%).

the numbers you gave for the last election tell us that about 1.7 people voted in the dem primary with every 1 that voted in the repub.

now factor in the independent/decline to state voters that could vote in the democratic primary. it seems like there isn't a huge shift here in california. i mean, is it a surprise to anyone that more people voted in the democratic primary in a predominantly democratic state?

but, i wonder how this primary compares with previous primaries. # of voters, percentages, all that. i'm not expecting anyone to do this research, just thinking out loud.

SEPTEMBER 2007 Forty‐three

SEPTEMBER 2007
Forty‐three percent of registered voters in California are registered as Democrats, and 34 percent are registered as Republicans. Among those most likely to cast ballots, the Democratic advantage over Republicans narrows to seven points (Democrats 43%, Republicans 36%).

The most notable change in the California electorate since 1997 is the addition of 1.1 million “decline to state” or independent voters (1.8 million to 2.9 million).
Sorry this doesn't completely answer your question, Ed.

It seemed like there were a lot more Conservatives and Republicans a few years back. Who voted in W two terms in a row? And where are they at now?

Another interesting note: Romney won only two counties in California on tuesday: Shasta and Fresno.

I hope I didn't sound too negative toward Huckabee. He actually seems like a real nice guy.

umm

Concerning the

Concerning the "others"........I thought it was sad that hundreds of thousands of votes went to candidates who were not even in the race anymore. But, I guess people have to stand by their man.

Here's a song that's sung to the tune of "Do The Hucklebuck" by Chubby Checker:

Do the Huckabee
Do the Huckabee
If you don't know how to do it
Man your just like me

First you grab the good book
And put it in your mouth
Your steppin left & right
And man your from the south

You beat the Apple's son
Playin bass in a band
You'd really like to be
McCain's VP man

Do the Huckabee
Do the Hucakbee
If you don't know how to do it
Man your just like me

fresnoise's picture

oddly enough?

Tha number 2 republican guy in Cali-lah-lah-lah?
(despite over 790,000 votes?
-and one of only three 'named,' candidates?
(the rest are considered as 'other,')

Has withdrawn from the race...

Cen-Cal?
Still hugely republican...
-(I wonder if I accidently stumbled onto the breeding grounds...
could explain the neuter at the state line when they saw my 'Kerry & Edwards' bumper sticker, (jeez, that smarted.)

Among my favourite Dem. T-Shirts?

'Obama over Hillary! (bro's before ho's!)'

and

'Obama: Half Honkey, ALL Donkey!'

I just don't see much excitement in the 'phant brigade...

(What rhymes with McCain?
-'...the reign of McCain resulted in disdain...'

And Huckabee...?
There's just no way I'm touching that...
(Jr. HighSchool must have been reeeeeally rough on the brother.)

a few questions

what percentage of registered voters is that for each party?

and combined, what percentage is that 6 million voters of registered ca voters?
