A Possible Solution

One Possible Solution
Attracting people to unattractive places can be hard. Sometimes an areas problems and stereotypes are so bad that the task of attracting people there can take years. Many people suggest that the downtown area needs housing, more parking, more businesses, and more attractions to drive people to the area. We’ll here is a news flash, if I’m getting all of these things currently where I live then why would I want to move to Downtown Fresno? Solving these problems won’t bring hundreds of thousands of people overnight. But I have an idea that might. What if Fresno added another school to its community? The greater Fresno area has a population of about 1.2 million people and we have only one state college, California State University of Fresno. We can change this; Fresno is long overdue for a new college institution. Fresno needs a UC school and this school should be placed in the downtown area. Not only will this school benefit the area by bringing students and jobs to the area but it will also provide an incubator for educating more people in the Fresno area. The more people that earn an education and graduate out of Fresno will lead to more success in the Fresno area. We as a community need to make the dream of UC Fresno come true, this will bring more attention to the downtown area and as a population moves in, housing, businesses, and events will follow.

1980s

I remember people pushing for a UC school in Fresno County in the 1980s but by the late 1990s it was decided to go elsewhere in the Valley.

At least it did not go to Bakersfield... hehe.

Ah, the UC

Fresno HAD a chance at getting the newest UC. The Regents were basically begging Fresno to take it. But the powers that be couldn't get their act together and we are still paying for it.

med school

I think i remember reading in the Bee that UC wanted to build another medical school and Fresno trying to get it. They also talked about a good portion of Dr.'s stay close to where they go to school, which would really help the valley. I think our ratio of Dr. to patient is way below the state average.

Guess we did

but didn't they want to build that...........on the north side?

Too bad though, too bad.

Catch Another Boat

Not really.... Just because we missed UC Merced doesn't mean that there will never be able to get one. Fresno needs to be pro active and grab the next chance available.

Dude, we missed the boat.
