Fresno, what would be more annoying to try and walk through at Park? Groups of loud asshole teens, or groups of loud salsa dancers? Dude, I'd say the dancers. DECIDE!
The other night, (on a weekend, -weeknights it's pretty quiet,) I was headed over to Kinko's to make some copies, (just missed their close time, so it was like, (maybe? tennish...)
The lot was buzzing, there were a lot of 'mall-security,' police on foot, and pretty good sized groups (10 to 20,) of adults (not highschool seniors, -more what looked like college aged and even older, (one guy looked to be at least 25,) hanging out, jumping in front of my pickup as I went for a parking spot, (etc.)
On another night, as I sat with a friend talking at Starbucks, there were groups of (again older 'kids,'-young adults,) hanging around their cars well past midnight.
Point?
It's not a 'young people's' hang out with just 'young teens,' -There were adults there in groups (looking for whatever,) well into their mid to late twenties.
-Are people going to be cool with their (youngish,) highschool kids hanging out with adults in a parking lot in the dark?
(I'm sure they're all just talking 'world-civ.')
And a lotta security... like, I saw at least 4 to 5 in different points of the lot, -and that was just from the 'subshop,' over to Kinkos.

We’re ignoring the base problem here. It’s not that teens are annoying, they are. The underlying problem, imho, is that tweens have NO place to go. If you only consider kids grades 8,9 & 10 (basically pre-driving kids) what’s available for them to do? Boomers is boring. Clubs are off limits. How many kids in the River Park area are there? West, Buchanan, Hoover, & Bullard not to mention all the middle schools that feed those H.S.’s. You’re looking at thousands of kids with no place to go and nothing to do. As Grandma used to say, “Idle hands…”. People, in various locations throughout the state and country, have tried opening up teen-only clubs and have failed. So, what is the answer?
I don’t know, I agree it’s a problem navigating around throngs of kids, some of them stoned out of their gourds. Others pushing or just having fun. The merchants can’t sell their goods because the doorways are clogged with kids.
I just don’t feel the answer is to kick them out of R.P. without having an alternate place for them to go to. Salsa dancers… Humm, can I join?

Honestly, both would drive me insane. I have to say that I totally understand why River Park wants to enforce a curfew. To many parents drop kids off at the mall, as a babysitter of sorts. Since I know that on the weekends the mall would be a nitemare, I avoid going there then. If I need to go to the mall, I go during the week, early enough in the day that I can avoid bratty kids running loose. I think people need to realize that the mall is private property, and if they say no kids after 6pm then so be it. Just go to one of the other malls in town.
...teens, dancers...?
