Guess what? It's Banned Book Week.
Here's some information from the Fresno County Library, including the most challenged books of 2007.
Call me naive, but WTF??!! This is still happening? In 2008? And Mark Twain is still on the list?
If you want to ban a book, let's start with some crap like this and, you know, leave the great literature alone.
I'm joking of course. People should be able to read whatever crap they like.
as Frank Zappa once said...
as Frank Zappa once said...(with sarcasm of course)..."it can't happen here."
I wonder how Sarah Palin is celebrating Banned Book Week? I'm sure you've all heard the story about her pressuring the Alaskan librarian?
The ABC News story can be found here:

the best bit is this (do ya believe her?):
"Palin has acknowledged she twice raised the issue in 1996 of how books could be removed from the shelves, but said it was only a "rhetorical question" and that she did not ask for any books to be banned."
It's Perfectly Normal!
When my daughter was 5 and asked me where babies came from, I immediately turned to this book. I would've been completely lost had it not been for the illustrations and simple definitions of sex, love, masturbation, and homosexuality.
She was the most informed kindergartener. I cannot believe that is a banned book!
XTC Burning Books
Books are burning
In the main square, and I saw there
The fire eating the text
Books are burning
In the still air
And you know where they burn books
People are next
I believe the printed word should be forgiven
Doesn't matter what it said
Wisdom hotline from the dead back to the living
Key to the larder for your heart and head
Books are burning
In our own town, watch us turn 'round
And cast our glances elsewhere
Books are burning
In the playground
Smell of burnt book is not unlike human hair
I believe the printed word is more than sacred
Beyond the gauge of good or bad
The human right to let your soul fly free and naked
Above the violence of the fearful and sad
The church of matches
Anointing ignorance with gasoline
The church of matches
Grows fat by breathing in the smoke of dreams
It's quite obscene
Books are burning
More each day now, and I pray now
You boys will tire of these games
Books are burning
I hope somehow, this will allow
A phoenix up from the flames
Comic Book Burnings of the late 1940s

Burning and Banning Books is the Dumbing of Society.
Lame
people have no culture these days. Without crappy literature, there would be no great literature. Even if people love to read crap, at least they can read, and like to read. That's good on a big picture kind of picture kind of thing. :)

May 10, 1933, Berlin book burning. I'm sure if our government had their way, we'd all be doing this right now.
