So I was driving through downtown tonight (11-21-09) and noticed several people trying to read the parking meters. This isn't the first time I've seen this, but tonight was the first time I actually stopped and informed the people they didn't need to feed the meter. Anyway, a couple of things came to mind that I wanted to put out there and see what you all thought.
1) We really need a Downtown Ambassador program - I've heard of other cities having them and I really think folks that are visiting downtown could really use them. I've personally seen on several occasions where they could be of great service. I know it's one of the things that folks want to implement when and if the PBID passes. Hopefully that will happen.
2) Fresno needs to simplify it's parking rules for parking meters - No I'm not saying it should be free. I'm saying this crap about paying till 6pm unless there's an event then it's to 10pm. Or the free on weekends unless there's an event. The biggest problem is that there is no good way of letting people know when an event is happening. The city used to put small a-frame signs up on some of the corners to let people know. The problem with that was they didn't always remove them in a timely fashion. Which would just confuse people.
So if the city could just do those two things, I'm pretty sure downtown would be fixed. <---Sarcasm!
