Jocey and I were interviewed on KMJ back in the 80's before the right-wing talkers took over the spectrum. Thanks Donovan. Oh the good old days when the Bee owned seemingly everything in Fresno.
Then they passed a law saying it was an unfair advantage for one entity to own the major newspaper, a tv station (ch.24) and the main radio station (KMJ). Right-wingers ended up with the radio station, ch 24 was sold and the Bee was left with only the newspaper.
I was listening with much frustration, as I usually do, to the Alan Autry radio show the other day as Bill McEwen sounded so intelligent compared to the former mayor when I thought, "They should give this guy a radio show. He's way more informed than a 'Obama is a communist' right-winger".
KYNO 1300am got rid of stone-age Dr. Laura and replaced her with a talk show featuring Bill McEwen from the Bee. Finally some moderation in this boiling sea of intolerance that is talk radio in Fresno.
I was going to put a link to the story by Rick Bentley in today's paper, but again, as usual can't find it at the confusing maze that is the Bee's website.
More wing-nut talk radio in Fresno
Yet another right-wingnut talk radio station in Fresno. I guess they missed the memo about Obama winning Fresno County in the election that was just 7 months ago. And ,that the nation overwhelmingly turned Democratic in 2006 and 2008. That's why Straight-talk with Bill McEwen on KYNO 1300am, noon M-F is quite different, he's not a propagandist for the conservative philosophy.
How many right-wing talk radio stations in Fresno does that make? I think the wave of the future is being a moderate. CNN just added a daily segment on wingnuts on both the right and the left.

(Although I do like me some Phil Hendrie, who happens to be an Obama supporter)
the first show
Bill McEwen's first show on kyno today was pretty good. That centrist, search for truth of a journalist is so different from a highly biased ideologue, like so much of wingies on talk radio.
McEwen vs. Appleton
I like his column. It will be such a nice change to have, what I believe, is a political moderate on Fresno am talk radio. When Jim Tucker was still doing Valley Press on ch. 18 Bill was so right on in his political analysis.
He should have Tucker as his first guest.
Maybe he can capitalize and expand on the shift that was started in the 2008 general election when Fresno County voted in the majority for Obama. No easy task in this heavily Republican area.
We need to get with the rest of the nation and step a little to the center away from these wrong-headed, far right policies. And maybe he can save KYNO from low ratings.
FYI
He starts on Monday and is going up against Appleton.
