I'm calling all you guys out. This site is all about posting on what's going on in this City. So I'm out here posting about shows, coffee stuffs, reports on the DTA when I can. But there's hardly anyone else posting what's going on in entertainment, shows, you know, stuff. All the stuff that is posted is cool, but we need more than just a few.
For instance, where did you go to see the Dark Knight? How about, I have a personal issue with that movie cause it killed the movie I have been waiting for forever, HELLBOY II. So, I have a bit of animosity going on. Brown and prou.....hmmm....Red and Proud? hmmm, well, all I know is I dig the whole ugly dude who looks evil and has every reason to be evil, Spawn, HELLBOY, but isn't and has a big ole heart instead....I seem to relate to that for some reason.....:)
Stop lurking and leaching and put supm in the pot.
... arrrgggghhhh.. (?)
Leo..
kidding,
I'm kidding Leo...
You know, like
KIDDING...
as in
kidding.
(though I think the Hellboy swede would totally work...)

Sorry
I have coworkers barely a year older than me, who I call elders. I just have a lot of respect for people older than me, as they often have much to teach and share with me. Most of all I respect wise people, whom I would call an elder out of respect as they deserve it. I guess it came out wrong, kind of hard to recover from that one but I meant nothing but respect for you -e.
Diablo
yeeesh, lets try snatching the pebbles from the hand again..
First off:
---You need me to sing 'Can't Smile Without You,' over anything with Liz, --I'm there.
(No comment about the girl being on fire when she's pissed... ---but you're BOTH latin, so I figger: even match...)
Second:
-agreed about Dark Knight... I have never almost decided to wiz in a soda cup just to make it to the end of a movie in my LIFE, like I did at that thing...
3. things stopped me..
a. -there was a guy sitting next to me who I thin was REALLY into comics who was sitting a bit to close who would have enjoyed it a little too much.
b. -camera security on the audience (I don't even pick my nose anymore.)
c. -it would be REALLY GROSS
RESPECTING YOUR ELDERS???
---what?
dude, your bald spot is bigger than mine...
(and besides, this is not like, ancient Korea or anything, we're just discussing movies here, (though I get the you=hellboy liz=liz thing...)
---which makes me?
...heavenboy?
(ah gad... that's just too femmish for words...)
yeeesh...
(as much money as we're both making these days, I'd say dragging the trucks are out... but maybe someday...)
(respect yer elders...)
smart alec
-e
Besides that
I have respect for my elders, it's ok for you to teach me things about movies...so I wasn't trying to be conflictive in my original retort.
Diablo
I said I liked the movie
I didn't say I wanted it to win oscars. My animosity came from seeing a film upstage it. Simple, there's no gauntlet here.
Last I checked, the only (one time) time my truck has been walked it was a freaking TUNA, I mean Tundra, and that's cause dude had a step on the freeway and the freaking speed governor shut down my party....
I called out people to post on goings on and what's happenings with them. So I threw a bone, and you picked it rather well.
I still like the movie, regardless of how many ways you can put it down. I like ugly dudes with big hearts. Besides, his girlfriends name is LIZ,,,,,HELLO Mr. Void.....Me...Diablo(HELLBOY)....She Liz, the chink in my armor.....
I actually didn't care for the drunken singing part cept to see the characters bond and talk about their issues.
When you start breaking down comic book movies and how the stories work from the comic and characters,,,,yackity schmackity, that's waayyyy too into comics for me man. I can dig fantacy stuffs, but I'm not gonna go building standards based on it shaking my head cause it doesn't meet my comic book movie standards. I'll leave that for the DnD in the basement players...
It's ok to like simple. From some of the way the movie is presented, I think it's geared more for kids, so it doesn't need the 3 hours of deep character developing audience bonding pee holding no intermission having full of popcorn eating ass falling asleep shifting from cheek to cheek audience hypnotizing grip on you.
HELLBOY II Rocks for simplicities, entertainments and family bondings sake.
Diablo
c'mon leo... don't be a wuss.
you 'called out,' folks for some sort of deeper conversation AND picked Hellboy 2...
I mean, you go throwing down an open challange for pinks?
---you KNOW there are folks in the area who run big-blocks
have fast reaction times,
and drink waaaaaaaay too much coffee.
(I'll loan you a few parts to fix yer motor, and even help you put wrench it back together,
---but you'd best show up to the track again, or I'm callin you chicken in front of the whole town...
(and I'd hate to do that...)
Besides, whomping a Dodge is so much more fun than walking a Chevy...
;)
(ya been served.)
I hate it when my cornflakes
taste like pee.
"You had to be so 'into hellboy,' and so into every inside joke (if there were any,) to go through the thing it was unreal..."
That said, guess I'm an unreal kind of guy.
I also loved the new HULK, even though some of the scenes were way too played up for the big shot actors. I really like Ed Norton a lot, I just hate when they set up those scenes where they have him and Liv staring back at each other, cinematic soapboxing or showcasing almost. Blek
Diablo
Dark Knight didn't kill Hellboy 2
Hellboy 2 killed Hellboy 2
You had to be so 'into hellboy,' and so into every inside joke (if there were any,) to go through the thing it was unreal...
I'd even say go so far as to say it should have gone straight to DVD
Everybody, (with exception of the Special Effects guy,) phoned this one in.
The story/plot was way too thin,
It was overloaded with special effects for (seeming) no reason.
There was very very little actual 'tension' between the characters...
It was almost like the origional cast wanted to make a new commercial for HellBoy 1, --and felt like including fans in it this time...
They reduce 'Abe,' to being little more than a gilled C3PO
---and then go and bump off his girlfriend (kind of a really naieve sorta dead member of the swedish bikini team who really needs to at least get out into the moonlight and stop playing D-n-D for an hour or two...)
--And the movie developed THAT story line only SLIGHTLY more than HellBoy's GF getting preggers, with both scenarios written in such anemic passing shots,
that I think watching a half hour of any soap opera (while knowing NONE of the characters) may have been more interesting and less predictable...
-that bad.
obvious endless walking from cliche' to cliche' finding the (obvious,) references to other films of the genre
-that had done it better
...it was just one big very expensive swede..
just a big bumper sticker...
Hellboy (the orig.) ---was GOOD,
(I mean, I looked for the thing watched it a few times, thought it had a reasonable degree of heft, traction, momentum, and moves... and it placed the characters pretty well...
---but even then there was this feeling of -okay, more can be said here. --Still it was good, (not great, ---but good.)
So if anyone asks me '...did you like Hellboy,' I'm like..
-yeah, parts of it were pretty good, I thought it was interesting, good characters, it wasn't a great as I had hoped, ---but it was a good start, lets see what they do with the series...
As for 2?
It's like...
Um,,,, yeah, at least I got some laundry done during this time to make it productive...'
Only thing I thought was halfway funny was he and Abe getting drunk and singing to Barry Manilow,
---but even that fell second place to my cynical laughter of seeing a whole locker full of (obviously paid for 'placed') cans of Tacate...
Though Batman seems to be racking up casualties, HellBoy wasn't on that boat at all...
That thing sank at the dock.
It's even low on the scale when compared to 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,' --and even that was better going straight to DVD, (yes, a little corny, --but at least I still like watching it from time to time...)
What REALLY sucks about movies about remote comic book characters being THIS bad?
Think about it:
-You have an already rich plot and storyline, you have a heritage already laid out,
---heck you could even follow the book half the time word per word, ---and people are going to want to see it because they're already fans.
(PLUS)
-if it's written out already, you can simply follow the formula, --just make it come to life.
The weirder and smaller, more complex characters (such as HellBoy,)
have even more appeal and promise for being creative, because they are NOT as mainstream as Superman or Batman
---so you can really show the richness and complexities of the character (you don't have to go all 'whitebread-mass acceptance,'
---and some of the dynamics of comics to film like X-Men and SpiderMan are permitted (and expected,) to be unusual, even 'acquired tastes,'
--but have a lot going for them in that they DON'T have to satisfy a ton of folks in all possible directions, and they often use actors that are not afraid of going deep and playing unique characters (not caring,) about public accolade.
Then lame shallow 'action figure commercial grade stuff' like HellBoy 2 comes out
(we're not even GOING to mention 'Judge Dread,'
-and people who really appreciate offbeat and deeper 'comic book,' or 'animation based,' characters?
just shake their heads,
turn in disgust
and fight the urge to go on a rampage of black magic markering every printed copy of 'Family Circus,' they can find...
both on DVD
I saw both on DVD
Sweeney Todd
Children's Musical Theaterworks CMT) is performing Sweeney Todd as apart of their older teen production (ages 15-20). My family has been pretty involved in CMT either acting or set building or spot operators but it will be interesting to see how they are able to pull off this more chilling murderous musical.
The show opens tomorrow night and runs the next two weekends.

yeah
I think Hellboy was overall better than Batman, too!
Batman was good but not the greatest movie ever like people seem to be saying. It's still just a Batman movie although a very good one.
Hellboy rocked. I liked it
