This week's The List is for anyone who has ever been away from home and lost (or forgot) their cell phone and found themselves in need of a cheap-ish way to make a call. Wouldn't it be great if there were some sort of public phone system that you could use? It seems like I remember something like that from back in the day.
So: You're stranded and you need to make a call and the three people you asked to borrow their cell phones said no. What do you do? Where's the nearest payphone? We won't talk about the fact that you probably don't have anyone's phone number memorized.
I've seen a few, mostly on Palm Avenue, because that's where I am.
* 7/11 at Palm and McKinley.
* Liquor Store on Palm and Shields.
I assume there are some at the major shopping complexes, but who knows? Anyone?

Land Lines Kick Ass
Awesome idea for a list, sir. Since last year, the phone company has actually removed their payphone tech positions and have let private owners take over maintaining and owning the remaining pay phones.
Even though there are far fewer these days, there are plenty still around. Like you mentioned, 7-11s are usually a safe bet for one or two. Now a days they are more prevalent in the lower income areas - folks with less money are smart enough not to waste it on cell phones, I suppose.

Good to know.
Now see, that is good to know. I guess I never noticed.
Don't forget the Fulton
Don't forget the Fulton Mall. I've yet to see a greater accumulation of payphones anywhere else in town!
