Loud music is a public nuisance!

---------------------------------------
California Vehicle code Section 27007:

No driver of a vehicle shall operate, or permit the
operation of, any sound amplification system which can be heard
outside the vehicle from 50 or more feet when the vehicle is being
operated upon a highway, unless that system is being operated to
request assistance or warn of a hazardous situation.
This section does not apply to authorized emergency vehicles or
vehicles operated by gas, electric, communications, or water
utilities. This section does not apply to the sound systems of
vehicles used for advertising, or in parades, political or other
special events, except that the use of sound systems on those
vehicles may be prohibited by a local authority by ordinance or
resolution.

----------------------------------------

If the music from your vehicle can be heard 50 feet away from your vehicle, you are guilty of a misdemeanor.

Why doesn't the Fresno police enforce this law? People drive around Fresno blasting their music (if you want to call if that) without any fear of receiving a citation. It's obvious the police write very few, if any, citations for this violation, and it's a serious violation.

Aggressively enforcing this law would generate several benefits:

1. Frenso would become a quieter, more pleasant place to live
2. The money generated from the citations would pay for the effort of enforcing the law
3. Most of the undesirables in town (gang members, drug dealers, etc) are the ones violating this law, and it provides police officers probable cause to make a stop and look inside a vehicle, run their license and their plates checking for wants/warrants. Many of these stops would end up solving other crimes or generating other citations/arrests.

Why isn't the police departing doing this??? why aren't we insisting they do this?

Stop the noise. Bring back our freeom to choose peace.

The needless booming is ridiculous. The booming effects people on so many levels and it's usually not positive, especially if it is forced upon us. There's a place for that kind of loudness; like in the clubs or large designated areas for such noise, but to have to hear it in neighborhoods or apartment areas etc. it is absurd and should be against the law and as citizens we should be allowed to make a citizens arrest on folk who boom their speakers of which are really screaming that they are lifeless, womenless, worthless losers who want to disrespect the world in compensation for their plight due to their own laziness. What baffles me further is how often it's usually silly white men who are trying to be down with ethnic folk by playing their bass so loud when we all really know that they would be somebody's girl in the ghetto or in prison taking it up the booty and quite possibly being turned out in the process. I'm so glad I have found other people who also realize the how stupid these people are and are encouraging a stop to the wannabe gangsta generation of posers and never gonnabees. I could go on and on but I'm definately desiring and am willing to do whatever is necessary o put a stop to the needless noise and booming coming out of people's vehicles & yes that includes that of some of those loud harley davidson motorcycles and the like. What a warped way to show machismo these days. These people don't want to show how tough they are through hard work and focus but would rahter show it through laziness and loud noise. Count me in on the anti-noise, anti-boom, anti-punk wimp movement too. Lets do this thing and shut them sorry excuses for life down.

I think Fresno PD is a bit

I think Fresno PD is a bit selective when it comes to writing tickets for this, and other things like loud motorcycles, ape-hanger handlebars and even video screens forward of the front passengers seats. Just like they're also selective over writing, or not writing in most cases, tickets for folks with lifted trucks and dark tinted windows, and missing front license plates (unless you're in Long Beach, then expect a ticket). All of these things are "illegal" according to the VC, but most cops never studied the VC to the point they feel comfortable doing a rolling stop for someone in violation. It takes an average officer about 7 minutes to write a ticket for a VC violation, but it takes all day when he has to go to court to defend his citation. This is the main reason they're selective, writing the one's they know will stand up in court.

Um yea

WTF i motorcycles exzaust system is way louder than my two 12" subs. and yet i still received a ticket by a motorcycle cop who watched a harley drive right past us....

I wish that were the case.

I wish that were the case. I've never seen a traffic stop in my neighborhood, let alone a stop for loud music. If you sit in my bedroom, every 2 or 3 minutes when the stop light turns red you can hear music in my bedroom from a vehicle at that stop light down the street. All day and all night long... every 2 or 3 minutes, without fail....

And nothing is ever done about it.

The police do enforce the stereo laws...

When I was younger and had amplified subwoofers booming music out of my car, I received numerous tickets from the FPD for my music being too loud.

Also, a lot of my friends did the same thing and received a lot of tickets, but... there are so many people doing it and so many repeat offenders that it may seem the police aren't doing their job.

They are.

But, we still see DUI's, speeders, taggers, drug dealers, weed smokers, petty thieves, people using their cell phones in their cars, etc. for the same reason.

They're caught, they get in trouble, they put it behind them and continue the same behavior in a more cautious manner.

Those who haven't been caught yet, feel like they're smart/slick enough that they're safe from consequence.

I don't condone any of these selfish activities, but you still see it because people still want to do their thing.

I totally agree with you on

I totally agree with you on that. Whether it's a car or a motorcycle, the loud music is obnoxious, but you can't fit the kind of sub woofers on a motorcycle that will allow you to push your music inside every home within a 3 block radius of you when you're stopped at a red light, people in Fresno do with their cars.

on enforcement and earplugs

you know who i find lately to be the worst offenders in this category: motorcyclists. i'm serious. there are a ton of guys in fresno, and i think all the ones i've seen are riding harleys, just booming their stereos.

as a rider myself, i understand the desire to have music, but i mix in an earbud (just one ear though) and am all good.
