NOTE: This is taken from a cross-post at Future of Fresno - it's a follow up, of sorts, to earlier discussions (both here and there).
Several discussions on Famous leading up to the June primary provided "colorful" insight into some of the candidates running for mayor and city council. With the intensity and chaos of an 11-candidate mayoral race behind us, however, it seems as though the remaining two contenders have abandoned the communication tools that may have (arguably) helped to set them ahead of the pack.
Neither Perea nor Swearengin have posted to their blog since election day, though they have responded to media inquiries. If we want a mayor who only opens up when a camera is pointing his direction...well, let's just say we've seen where that gets us.
If we expect younger voters to show up at the polls, perhaps candidates and media should...um...speak to younger voters.
The kid doesnt seem to know alot about anything.
What he wants.
Who he is.
Where he stands on issues.
The last thing we need is an immature boi as mayor that submits to anything his daddy says.
And Daddy Prea seems to change his political stance on issues depending on which group he is speaking to.
Especially now that daddy has his eyes on a State seat and doesnt want to offend the Conservative Christians or Catholics.
Do you really want Daddy Perea running the County Board and City Hall?
Perea Replacement
I did ask Henry T. back in May or so if he had anybody in his district that he would like to replace him on council if he indeed became mayor. He said he didn't know of anybody. I don't know if it was a political answer or he truly doesn't have anybody he would recommend.
One of the many reasons I voted for Swearengin was I knew what I had with Perea on the council but I don't know who will replace him if he does win in November.
I'm just catching up on the
I'm just catching up on the comments, and there are several different thoughts, so I'll try to respond to everything.
Andy, good point about voting. I used the collective "we"--maybe that only refers to you and me though. I did see the same poll results (ABC 30?), but the fact that the candidates have been "laying low" emphasizes my point: there's no need for them to keep seemingly open lines of communication with the public until a deadline is closer.
Leo, I also agree that we've spun our wheels long enough, but I'm a bit more optimistic about the candidate choices for mayor, at least). There's a compromise in any election, but I'm confident that whoever is elected in November will have a positive impact.
Doug, see my comment above (about being optimistic). No doubt the GOBC exists, but the remaining two candidates are not nearly as tied to that as some of those eliminated in June.
Adrian, good point about a fourth election. I actually don't mind voting, but it is a costly endeavor--mentally, fiscally, and otherwise.
So the spoiled rich kid wastes even more tax dollar if elected?
First with the run off election for mayor.
Which if he wins will cost taxpayers more for another special election or two(if theres a run off) to fill his seat?
So as usual the GOBC wastes even more tax dollars feeding special intrests.
I guess only way to save tax money is to vote for Ashley. At least we clearly know which side of the fence she is on. Haven't we had enough of the City Hall Caberet?
It smells like its time to change the paper in the Bird Cage?
Sometimes voting just leads to more voting
On top of this, if Perea wins we'll have a special election after this election to vote in a new city council member, and that means voters are going to have to keep their thinking caps on for a bit longer. Check out my podcast with Perea from Monday and you'll hear details about that.

I'm trying to get their messages out to young people too, so check out my site for more updates (such as an upcoming interview with Ashley Swearengin).
You wont get progresive until you step out of 1940
Face it Fresno is still run by the "Good Ol' Boys Club". All one had to do is look at the Genesis Trial. The GOBC was out in full force to defend the sisters. From River Park to Downtown to Fresno State.
All the tired old and out of touch with the real world members of the GOBC were there in court in full force. John Welty screams sexist stuck in the 40s mindset.
Face it they want one of thier own for mayor that will rubber stamp and be a "yes girl friday" for thier plans. "Go look pretty while the real men handle business babe.".
Or an imature kid that has yet to find himself and come to terms with it so they can run over him. "Don't you have a new Sissor Sister's album to go listen to boi?"
Either way the GOBC wins.
Maybe the public would be better informed if the Bee did an indepth look at both canidates.
Which is really the lesser of two evils or is one the lesser of a two faced evils?
It's as bad as the presidency
Like trying to choose which arm to cut off. No matter what, the decision sucks and leaves you feeling like you are making a big compromise in principle of some sorts.
I'd vote for who ever is most aggressive and proactive for making change, a progressive leader. We've spun our wheels long enough here.

Most Didn't
From your blog's title: "We Have to Vote Again?" I would say from the poor amount of people who in fact voted in June, that for most people it would be that they are voting for the first time, at least since February.
I think the candidates were laying low for a while post June election but are gearing up soon. I saw one of the local news station has it 47-43% Swearengin over Perea but a +/- 4 % error so essentially a statistical tie.
I know both candidates have been fundraisng but I am sure none of them were precinct walking when it is 100+ degrees outside but it will be coming on soon enough.
