The California Opera Association, as a sponsoring organization of the William Saroyan Centennial Events, invites you to join them in celebrating Saroyan’s 100th Birthday! This concert event featuring the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia with special performance by Edna Garabedian and Fresno Choral Artists is part of the Saroyan Centennial, a year-long celebration highlighting one of Fresno’s most colorful and talented people – William Saroyan (1908 – 1981). Ms. Garabedian performs to critical and popular acclaim in the United States and throughout Europe. Some of the companies with which she has sung the most popular leading lady roles include: Munich Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Kassel Opera, Nurnberg Opera, Hannover Opera, the Spoleto Festival, Staatsoper Bonn, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Music Center Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle Opera, Houston Opera, San Diego Opera, Baltimore Opera, Kansas City Lyric Opera and Portland Opera. She has numerous medalist awards to her credit including the prestigous Tchaikowsky Competition of Moscow, winner of Baltimore Opera Auditions and the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Garabedian is founder of the Fresno International Grand Opera and California Opera Association and currently serving as CEO/Artistic Director of California Opera Association in Fresno. She has taught at the International Music Institute of Sao Paulo, Brazil, has been Chairman of Voice and Opera at the University of Connecticut and University of the Pacific, and served as Professor of Voice on faculty of Northern Illinois University, California State University at Fresno, American University and San Francisco University. Most recently, Ms. Garabedian has toured Mexico in both performance and in building new opera programs for the country, has been appointed Ambassador of Culure and Fine Arts in development of Western Music in provinces of China, and she was honored by nomination of the Federal and State Departments of Education, and invitation through the Cultural Division as a guest of the government of Taiwan, to promote collaboration between the countries of the US, Taiwan and mainland China. In addition, Ms. Garabedian continues to perform with, promote and stage direct various companies throughout the nation and world.
