today is national record store day. sadly, none of the local record stores are listed as participants. but that doesn't mean you can't make them a part of it unofficially. head over to spinners or to rasputin's and pick up some vinyl.
if you're able to, come back and leave a note about what you picked up.
this time it's for real
hey, the day has arrived. get out there and buy a record at spinners.
Ch-ch-ch-changes.....
It's such a wacky world we live in. Everything has been turned on it's head. I always thought giants like Tower Records and General Motors would never die. "Ch-ch-ch-changes.....turn and face the strange.....ch-ch-ch-changes"
It seems like the very juice that made the greats great isn't even wanted anymore.

Here's a new documentary about the independent
record store:
http://www.netflix.com/Movie/I_Need_That_Record/70101468?trkid=226872
"Imperiled by the rise of downloadable music and the chaotic state of the record industry, the American independent record store is fast becoming a dying breed, as chronicled in Brendan Toller's shout-out to these beloved spaces. The documentary captures visits to indie record stores across the country, and includes interviews with Dischord Records founder Ian MacKaye, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, philosopher Noam Chomsky and many
others."

with so much information available online and so much crap pushed at you online.
Why would you buy music?
I went to spinners and rasputin's and I did pick up some vinyl but after looking at it I set it back down from were I picket it up from.
Instead I went to my self of records and picked on up and and wondered when was the last time I played a record? it was early 2007. don't get me wrong i like records I really think they are better than CD's for archiving since if you broke a CD it's just junk but you can play a broken record and fix it with a computer like you can fix a torn photo with photo shop.
When Is Comic Book Day?
Records
I didn't know about this, but I did recently visit a local segunda where I gleefully purchased a fine Longines Symphonette boxed set collection of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (plus Baja Marimba Band selections) for $5.00. (actually $4.00 after my Senior Discount...decay has it's rewards).
(I would have logged in as Benjamoon von Schwulemann to post this, but was directed to agree to the 'terms of service' and I'm sorry, but the page I was "looking for has moved or no longer exists".)
better a month early than a day late

holy crap. thanks guest. seriously. especially since i wasn't able to make it to the record store. i totally read about this on a friend's blog and he was talking about it being today, so i didn't really look @ the month and went with what he said. just saw 18, knew today was the 18th.
now we can all save up and hit spinners en masse.
Record Store Day
I know Spinners has some things planned for that day, not sure on specifics yet.

A bit ahead
Um...you are a month early. The picture shows it as April and the website also has it listed as April. Well at least you've made me aware of it a month ahead of schedule. I hate finding stuff out AFTER it has happened.
