this is the official disgruntled Falcons fans' booing section

it seems a shame that a sport that is so fast & exciting would close this far into the season, being in 1st place & all

its like soccer, only 10 x faster
(ok,its low scoring like soccer, sorry)

it has everything that a sport fan would like;
speed, power, agility, grace (ever try to ice skate, control a 3 inch puck & avoid being bashed in by Heimlich the Destroyer, all at the same time?), violence; http://video.aol.com/video-detail/hockey-collection-mans-biggest-hits-ev...

so why did it fold here in Fresno?

"a condemnation of the people that originaly pushed the stadium"

I thought Fresno(tax payers) were promised the stadium would be packed?
There would be all kinds of concerts and other events.
What happened?
As for Mayor Patterson being right about vetoing it, wasn't it reported on the Front page of the Bee after he was out of office?
At least Mayor Patterson always acted in the interest of the City(tax payers).
Hopefully Mrs Swearengin will do the same.
It's time we had change in City Hall.
This Stadium was a wash from the start.
Didn't it take the Diamond group 10 years to turn over their paperwork the City Council kept requesting?
I vote against buying Grizzlies season tickets.
The risk of getting cheated by the powers that be is too great.
Especially with Falcons going under and Fuegos also a wash.
So as his opening act Autry gave us/taxpayers a soon to be dead baseball stadium.
Then closed his Mayoral show with a million dollars Sports Town walk going no where.
Makes you wonder who got paid under the table and benefited from fat overpriced contract.
It didn't revitalize Downtown or help the taxpayers.

the stadium sits empty and unused most of the time.

OrangeBear says:

Even if local promoters fail nothing is lost because the stadium sits empty and unused most of the time.

.
.
thats a condemnation of the people that originally pushed the stadium on Fresno, that it would help revitalize DT, how does a stadium that is only used part of the year earn its keep? by being used the rest of the year by other events, so why wasn't it?

shucks, guess old Mayor Jim Patterson was right, don't you know

Did any Falcon's Fans ever get thier money back?

Has that ever been answered or were they all screwed?
Maybe we can lock Glover and Cummings in a room with Marla.
And what's up with the financial situation of the Grizzlies?
Is there a danger the Giants will pull the franchise because of the financial situation?
Maybe Mayor Swearengin needs to check this out.
I was serious about giving local concert promoters a shot at booking concerts.
The group handling the stadium now can't do the job.
Even if local promoters fail nothing is lost because the stadium sits empty and unused most of the time.

Personally I'd hold off on buying season tickets.

After the controversy surronding the way they handled the Falcon's tickets it's clear the management can't be trusted.
Buy your tickets on game day this way if management folds the team you don't lose much.
Have any Falcon's fans gotten refunds yet?
Also did the Jr falcons ever get the money from the uniform auction?
Never trust anyone that uses kids and cheats them.

Doug's picture

I just want to know is it safe to buy a Grizzlies season ticket?

Or will I get burned like Falcon's fans?
I called the ticket office and the lady on the phone offered to sell me a season ticket but would not tell me if it would be good or if there would even be a full season. They expect you to buy a ticket but wont discuss the stability of the team. Should Grizzlies fans be scared? Should we be very scared?

ice rink or Banked Track Roller Derby?

imagine if they had put in that talked about ice rink and then the hockey team quit like it did.
now maybe the city can invest in the local roller derby teams and bring it back like it was when it peeked in the early 1970s according to the sports illustrated book "Five Strides on a Banked Track" the Oakland Roller Derby team made more profit than the Baseball Team back in the late 1960s so much that the Roller Derby Team did a benefit to help the baseball team... but did the baseball team return the favor when Roller Derby died in the early 1980s?

How about creating a male roller derby team and bring back the banked track.

this is how it's done

For years the City of Fresno has been stealing Property

They change property lines. Fill your house with deadly gases to put you to sleep then switch your furniture to make you think your losing your mind. Trust me the City of fresno knows what they are doing. Can we say operation Rezone Mr Scarton!

Can't the City of Fresno do anything right?

In Arizona, the baseball stadium retracts and is air conditioned, we have Chukchansi Park. We don't have a Major League Football Field or Team. Most Fresnans follow the Raiders and 49er's. San Francisco and Oakland get all that revenue. Why in the world would we think they would be smart enough to keep the Falcons? Can the City of Fesno do anything right?

orange, you are a genius!!!

Seriously though how about scheduling more concerts in the empty stadium.
Get some real concert promoters in there and let them work.

Sammy Hagar

Blues Brothers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Los Lonely Boys
Rage Against the Machine

the only answers for such a big empty space
is an active promoter, wake up City of Fresno!!!

AGGGGGGGGGGH! No more garlic fries! Say it aint so!

Will make my Buck's Blended Strawberry Lemonade a double and cancel my order for a season ticket!
I don't want to get ripped off like Falcon Fans or charitys as the case may be.
What will I do without garlic fries served by a crystaled out (ex?)con?
I hope it's not true about the Grizzlies folding.
But even my sources have been warning me about it.
Maybe we can rechristen the empty stadium Autry's Tomb after the Prop 8 whiners are done hunting him and Franklin.
(Grabs can of RAID to spray sliver spiders dancing across keyboard)
We can make the stadium a tourist attraction displaying all of Autry's failed ideas complete with a real live drug camp filled with street people to pester tourists.
It can be his legacy.
Seriously though how about scheduling more concerts in the empty stadium.
Get some real concert promoters in there and let them work.
Don't let the stadium become part of the Downtown Ghost Town.

Thanks

While i completely understand the frustration of this guest and many others in Fresno, I want to be sure to distinguish SCRG from any other national sports chain in Fresno. We were league owned and operated, run by all-female skaters, for the skaters and relied solely on our on ingenuity and hard work.
This is such a seperate issue; one that should be taken seriously in its own right.
Thanks for taking the time to move this issue to its own blog.

First Falcons. Now the Grizzlies?.Bubba's Legacy continues.
Submitted by Famous Guest on Mon, 12/29/2008 - 15:26.

Word around Downtown is the Grizzlies are next to fold. Last month according to sources the Grizzlies were broke yet it was the Falcons that folded first. Now the Grizzlies are fine?
And what about the money from the charity auctions? Why haven't the Jr. Falcons got the money yet from the charity auction?
Why were the Jr. Falcons only getting 20 percent of the money from the Chuck-a-Puck fundraisers?
Why were Falcons owners taking 80 percent?
Des anyone know if the Veteran's Home ever got the money from the charity auction for the Vetran's Home?
What's really going on here?
Isn't stealing charity money a felony?
The Downtown Stadium has been a waste from day one. Remember when Mayor Paterson "VETOED" it. Boo Hiss Booo Baseball Hater! He said the City aka taxpayers would be stuck with the cost of the stadium and we have been. The city owns it all including all half broken equipment in the food stands.
Foodstands with nasty dirty floors, broke ice machines and broken sinks?
Does the Health Department give the City a free pass on the violations?
And speaking of the Falcons/Gizzlies/Fuegos stew: what happened to the legacy project?
Where was Autry during all this?
He was in the Starbuck's dreamin of his imaginary rivers, lakes and planning his Zillion Dollar Tour
Whatever hapened to Sport's Town?
Well Bubba can enjoy the lights on the trees that a million dollars bought at taxpayers expense.
