SATURDAY JULY 19th 7 PM
“SHALOM”
BETH TEMPLE ISRAEL
6622 N. Maroa Between Sierra & Herndon
In celebration of Israel's 60 birthday and journey, festival artists pay tribute to beloved opera and family members, featuring Opera and classical music as well as favorite Jewish and Israeli songs. This evening is sponsored and hosted by Dr. Harvey Edmonds and family in memory of his beloved father, Albert Edmonds. After singing locally, Albert Edmonds won the Atwater-Kant Audition, attended Julliard and began singing at the Metropolitan Opera. Later, he married Doris and the two began Edmonds Jewelers in Fresno. Just recently while going through some boxes Dr. Harvey Edmonds came upon a treasure trove of old music that his father had sung in his performing days. As talent runs in the family Dr. Edmonds and his daughter, Alexandra, both COA performers since 2000, decided it would be a wonderful idea to give a concert at the temple in honor of his father featuring some of this music. The two are joined by returning COA Festival artist and competition finalist Ayelet Cohen who also recently performed Gretel in COA children’s matinees of ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and as Micaela in prior COA productions of ‘Carmen.’ Born in Jerusalem, Ayelet was the recipient of the prestigious Sharett Prize of the America-Israel Foundation. By age 11 she was performing with the Ankor Choir as a soloist at European music festivals. While pursuing her Bachelors of Musicology and Vocal Performance, Ayelet performed as a soloist at concerts and events throughout Israel and was the Hebrew University official soloist. Her most recent performance in Israel was Six Songs for Voice and Orchestra with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
