Fresno Famous

On the corner of Fresno and Clinton in an old strip mall, I made a great find, Ruben's Rib Shack, the entrance being on Clinton, just across from Veteran's Hospital. The place itself didn't look like much from the outside, but the smell coming from the place and its two outside barbecues was enough to get my mouth watering and draw me in. When I first walked in, I noticed it was well kept. While being strictly a take-out, some people (me included) couldn’t wait to dig in right then and there... Hey don't blame me! The food is just so irresistible! In fact, they want you to come on down and taste some free rib samples and to experience for yourself a taste of authentic Southern BBQ. I just have to say that Ruben's Rib Shack has the best barbecue that Fresno has to offer, at good prices too. (And yes, I am a friend of the owner, but that does not mean I am partial.)

The ribs themselves are good-sized and meaty. The ribs don’t just look good, they taste good too. I have never tasted ribs that were so juicy, so tender, so moist, and so flavorful. Really the ribs alone without the sauce would have been good enough because of the delicious smoky flavor of the ribs, but the sauce is just icing on the cake! The sauce is absolutely delicious. It is not too sweet, not too spicy, but just right. This delicious savory sauce and the smoky ribs combined together make these ribs extremely addictive.

Don't like ribs that much you say? No problem! Ruben's Rib Shack offers something for all types of BBQ enthusiasts. The deep-pit barbecued beef is also quite good since it has a good smoky flavor and packs some heat. The chicken is juicy and flavorful and would even leave people who aren’t the biggest poultry fans wanting more. Also, the sides themselves are actually tasty on their own merit. The baked beans are very good really, probably some of the best beans I have ever had. There is definitely no problem with portions the here. In fact, you WILL have leftovers (not unless you have a big appetite like me). So I think it would be best for you to come with either a big appetite or a friend. The service is good too because it is evident that the staff has a "customer first" ethic going for them. So all in all, if you love delicious Southern-style Bar-B-Que, Ruben's Rib Shack is the place to be! Satisfied customers (me included) will guarantee that you will NOT be disappointed.
