Weekend recap: Where were you?

I was on the Fulton Mall eating pizza, drinking beer and playing/enjoying some loud-and-fast punk/thrash/rockabilly madness at Milano. Seeing punk kids on the mall after dark was wonderful in a remember-the-Patterson-Hall kinda way.

What I missed:
*Soccer
* Fresno's Best rockers
* Hellboy II

return from cookie mountain was skipping too....

tried to 'clean,' out the dig in the CD... didn't work.

-I felt much better after I snapped the thing in half...

Folks, ---really, check the used CD's at Rasputins before you head out the door..

'...well there is a small mark on this one...'
'..oh, do you think it will skip...'

'..nah..'
'..okaythen...'

This after they took a form and wrote down everything from my drivers license number, to my phone number to getting my signature on a piece of paper (for an exchange of two skipping CD's)

---anything funny goes on with my D.Lic. and signature?
I get to own a record store... (yay.)

it skipped...

My recommendations?
jump up and down,
rant and rave,
start crying for fire to fall from on high, warn the parking lot and the other shoppers of a (neo-con) plot ---and demand full refund...

(heh-heh, 'neo-con...'
you thought I was going to say 'communist,' huh... HUH...?)

But nooooo, this is Fresno Famous, and if you want to strike fear in the hearts of FF'rs, ---don't say commmunist, say NEO CON...

(...yeah!)

or better yet
-just check them before you leave, and if you see any scratches?
just

JUMP UP ON THE COUNTER AND START YELLING '...HEY BUDDY, WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PULL HERE, HUH?'

or not.

-the Driver's license and phone number/signature thing really did sort of creep me out though...

Riverpark

On Saturday I took my girl and her cousin and best friend to Hooters, yes Hooters for her 13th Birthday. Her request. Was very interesting. It was Delightfully tacky, yet refined. Lotsa gross oogling men. Yummy hot wings.
Cruised Riverpark which to my surprise was kinda like a ghost town.
We NEVER and i mean NEVER head north. It was definately a sight to behold. Like Disneyland without the cotton candy. But again, I was surprised at the lack of people there. Maybe it was the heat keeping them away.

low-fi

worked... (big sale on bikes this week.)

laundry... (big not-so-sale on laundry this week.)

major vacuum of upstairs and downstairs... (big clot of something fabric blew belt for ancient 'eletctrlux,' rug-beater sucker thingie... (looking to find ANY sale of a new belt this week... the electrolux is a dinosaur, but it rawks...)

humongous clean of upstairs bathroom... BIG HAPPY and nothing 'grabbin atcha,' from the 'executive washroom,' this week anymore, (have sudsy amonia, Mr. Clean, COMET and scrubbies? will party...

streamed some great sermons on sunday from my old haunt (Calvary Chapel: Philadelphia)
While cleaning...

Found 'Tom Petty Greatest Hits' at Rasputins for five dollah. (yay.)

-found out why it five dollah... skips (boo.)

slept... (slept goooood.)

(MONDAY UPDATE: ---return Tom Petty: Greatest Hits CD and upgrade to SEVEN DOLLAH version (which hopefully -yay- will not skip this time...)
-couldn't find 'Queen Greatest Hits Vol. 2' so went with
'TV on the Radio: Return from Cookie Mountain,' instead (weird wild stuff.)

Great movie. Fav part for me has to be the tooth faries.

Hellboy 2 is teh gud

Yes, you should catch up and go watch this before the onslaught that is The Dark Knight wipes it clear off the map. Awesome film...

best of fresno ....

Our Best of Fresno coverage is up at The Beehive.

Friday

Gravity and mass increased around the Café Corazón area of the Fulton. The words were heavy with thought and emotion, the messages were provoking and at times brought on deep feelings to the audience.

Big thanks to Devoya for helping with the show. Big thanks to Alpha Force, Red Sleeve, MB and Chicago.

This was a show many will never forget.

Diablo

Thunder and Hail storm

I was camping at Mono Hot Springs, during a Thunder and Hail storm, it's an interesting experience to sit outdoors in a 108 degree hot spring while it rains up in the High Sierra next to one of the forks of the San Joaquin River.

I would have gone to that Fresno Best Rockers if I would have been in the Very Hot Valley.

Looking at a video clip it looks like bad promotion or it's too hot outside for the crowds to show up, the promoters should have more of a advanced promotion and hold the event at a nicer time of year when it's not so hot in the after noon to be outdoors in the valley.

Busy weekend

Saturday evening I went to the "Jesus for President" (wasn't what you might think from the title). It was a very anabaptist (Mennonite) approch to the life of faith.

Sunday night enjoyed the very first Jazz Jam at Marsols (moved from Tower Mosaic) In addition to the core quartet (Andre Bush, David Aus, Roy Carlson, and Gary Newmark), Bobby Logan and Scott Fisgibbons shared their sax with us and Lisa Kao sang several numbers.

Marsol is a great location for straite ahead jazz. (food was good too)

I saw Docabilly and Poplord *tear it up*
to a not huge, but severely appreciative
crowd over at Milano on Friday night.

Saturday MORNING I woke up early (for a Saturday) and tuned into ex-Fresnans
James & Raina (souls&soundsproductions) who
now do a cable/web radio show where they play mostly vinyl and often include Fresno area bands in the playlist.
(check 'em out at on Saturday mornings:
http://www.accesssacramento.org/ )
--you scroll about 1/3 down the page and click on 'the voice'.
Saturday night, stayed in and watch "Persepolis" with my family---really intense graphic-novel adapted animated film about growing up in Iran.

Sunday night: took my kids to see Juan Serrano.
---I feel all super-culture-i-fied now.
Now I'll stay home, drink soda and eat bologna sandwiches for a while to balance out my life for the week.
