Ceilidh Benoit (pronounced kay-lee ben-wah) paints a back drop for the Green Eggs and the MET event.

Green Eggs and the MET

Naming cocktails isn’t normally on your party-planning to-do list.

But then, Green Eggs and the MET isn’t your typical party, and if you’re serving Dr. Seuss-inspired cocktails, they need to have appropriate names. They just do.

So Ceilidh Benoit (pronounced kay-lee ben-wah) is having too much fun with this — coming up with Whoville Sarsaparilla and a blue something they’re calling Sneetch on the Beach.
And can you blame her?

“We just want it to all feel Seuss-y,” says Benoit, who is organizing the event at the Fresno Metropolitan Museum tonight. The Seuss-inspired party will serve as the opening for The Art of Dr. Seuss: A Retrospective Exhibition, which will be on display in the museum through mid January.

Along with the art (and aptly named cocktails), guests will be treated to music from Wheels of Fortune, Yesterday’s Chonies, Uni and Her Ukelele and El Olio Woolof (a Seussical line-up if we’ve ever seen one). There will also be Seuss-inspired snacks from The Painted Table, a pop-up shop from Urban Outfitters (which by coincidence is selling Seuss gear) and free bike valet from Steven’s Bicycles.

This is the second exhibit-related party hosted by the museum. In August it held “Let Them Eat Cake,” a closing party for the “I Want Candy Exhibit.”

It also featured bands, food and cocktails and was well-received, Benoit says.

Using a museum as a venue for entertainment is nothing new or revolutionary. But by creating events that are tied to particular exhibits, the museum can connect with a younger audience base, one that might not instantly be familiar with what the MET has to offer.

And Benoit is excited by the response she’s gotten from the events so far and the fact people want to see music in the museum. But she’d be as excited if guests forgot about the music altogether and got lost looking through the gallery space — which right now includes Chagall and Matisse, a HUGE win for Fresno.

“We’re rich with art this season.”

Seuss!

Well, I know I have to go twice. Tonight's over 21 and not all of my family meets that requirement. I do look forward to seeing some of my fave local music tonight, and diving into the world o' Seuss.

(and dogGONE it F.Whitewater, but you are slamming up cool posts DAILY around here. Excellent.)

green eggs & the met!

this is going to be a great, fun event. sadly, the chagall exhibit will be closed off during the green eggs & the met event. i totally wanted to double up and see both exhibits in one night. now, i'm going to have to show up over there again.

and thanks for spelling ceilidh's name correctly. i rarely can. in fact, i bet if you look over here to hear a great podcast featuring her about the event you will see that i've got her name misspelled.
