streetlights

The streetlights are dark all over town. Thieves steal the copper wire out of them. I personally have reported many lights as being out. Seems like no one listens or they can't keep up with the thieves.

As I've said before, the

As I've said before, the number 1 thing to do is report grafitti. It's usually cleaned up in a day or two. It's easy, painless, and you're already paying for it.

The area needs more lighting. I've walked by myself down Moroa or any other side street and noticed just how dark it is. Perfect place for a mugging/rape/whatever else.

I also agree the cops need to crack down on the homeless more and leave the skaters alone. If everyone else is so happy about the homeless, please leave your address and I will tell the one who goes through my trash nightly to visit your block.

"I don't see any new trees planted or any thing major done."

well, they did actually remove and replant most of the trees along olive between wishon & palm. this was done for several reason. some were diseased, but most were considered to be a poor species to be planted there due to the size they'll reach, the amount of leaves/stuff they drop and so on. so, they were replaced with better choices. in doing so, the city also replaced the openings in the sidewalk with grates that meet legal standards.

and as for tower beautification, we do it because we realize that the city workers can't be everywhere, all the time. the streets are regularly swept and such, but we want to provide a deeper level of care and service to our community. we're not just talking trash, we're trying to do something about it. and, yes, we're mainly just picking up trash. we've hoped to do more (clear alleyways, paint graffiti - stuff that you might also think the city should do) but we're generally a small & limited crew. so, we assist the city in picking up trash.

btw, the city does provide the trash bags & grabbers for beatification, as well as take away the full trash bags.

The Tower District has slowly died like Downtown

Starmud's and The Video Box Giant killed the Mom and Pop places.

The Tower snobs drove the teens and skaters away.

With their not in our area attitude.

I see security and police hassling skaters but not the street vagrants.

People looking to turn profits drove house and rent prices up.

You can't even relax at Starmud's the street vagrants panhandle there and the place is a mess.

They use to have the cleanest bathrooms in the Tower.

Now Starmud's bathrooms look like the swap mall bathrooms.

Lil Gangsta East Side carved his name on the seat so everyone can sit on him and his homies to dump.

Yes he represents!

Where does that special property tax for the area get spent?

You hear about Tower Beautification.

Where?

I see people picking up trash but is that all?

Why are people picking up trash?

You pay taxes and fees for the City to do the job.

You should be demanding the City provide the service you payed for.

I don't see any new trees planted or any thing major done.

Does the money go to pay people on a board a monthly check?

How about livining things up a little more.

Maybe more lighting and some speakers playing jazz at major intersections.

Add some art deco neon signs like the Downtowns Arches that say Tower District.

As for the old Lauck's and Drug Fair Building the City should declare them and any other vacant building unsafe to use until the oweners bring them up to code and make all needed repairs.

No allowing them to be used while repairs are made.

Fix the whole building or no using it at all.

No just adding a coat of tar or patching sections of parking lots to avoid planting trees.

Make them redo the whole parking lot and add trees.

Fine owners of empty buildings if they don't repair them.

Ah, the Tower. Lord I do love that neighborhood, despite all of its various negatives. It was home to me for more than twenty years. Now I live in Sunnyside, and miss "home" everyday. The great little used book shops, the sidewalk cafes, Laucks bakery. I have got to move back.

Took me...

..'bout 2.5 minutes. I guess I'm just slow today.

survey time

if any of these surveys take a few minutes, you're taking too long. really, the questions are straight forward, each survey part only has a few questions (5 or so). i'm pretty sure you can answer all 20 in 2 minutes.

it would be beneficial for you all to take the survey.

and, it would be beneficial for the survey's final question to allow for longer answers. i think you get about 35 total spaces.
