Anonymous Posting

Very few commenters use their real name or a screen name. This can make conversation difficult, and comments less credible. Should we continue to allow anonymous commenters? Or should we require registration (valid email and screen name)?

glad you like it!

We've been going back and forth on threaded comments for a while now, so we decided to try flat formatting. We like it better too.

Thanks for the continued feedback!

Woo hoo! No more nested

Woo hoo! No more nested topics, looks good.

Anyway, to get back to the original topic... I don't think you should allow anonymous posting. People should have to register to post, it's not that big of a deal. That and it's nice to know who you're talking to, even if it's just a screen name.

Hi Suzi!

I remember you too! You sang the theme song at the beginning of the show at perfect pitch! "It's Funtime, It's Funtime, it's Channel 30 Funtime. We're happy to see you, we hope you're feeling fine." You really carried the show that day! Unlike some of those rascals who couldn't hold a tune if their lives depended on it! Thanks for that!

Channel 30 Funtime

Oh...my...gawd. Shoot me for vaguely remembering that stuff...at least I think I do.

Actually some of that *local children's TV genre* I'd love to see video of today. A buddy of mine's dad had a kiddie show on channel 53 when it was first starting up. Leebo the Clown.

haunted heads...

Oh, John - I SO feel your pain!

For those of us who were actual participants on "Channel 30 Funtime" as kids this is scary indeed.

Though, I think our own "Al of the Dead" here has a better sense of humor...

I would agree with this.

I would agree with this, no threaded or nested topics. Just make them flat. It's simpler and makes the most sense.

Ghost of Al Radka

Oh great. Just when, after 20 years of therapy, I'm finally getting those awful visions of acid-trip inspired dancing olive commercials out of my head, the old goof has a ghost running around.

Somebody stop the madness, please, before the nightmares return.

the anonymous state of mind

After building & belonging to many sites and forums, I find that valid email addresses & screen names only provide a glimmer of identity.

All it takes is one good spam or bandwidth attack before an anonymous identity looks like the best option.

Aren't we all anonymous.....

Maybe Famous can offer an identity crisis registration option for those posters who want only to resemble real people, living or dead, and not be themselves at all. The system can allow them to register without an e-mail address (which is the only thing that makes a uses real) but then would print their screen name in color to identify them as an "anonymous" poster. Although I think that you should call them "not real" over anonymous.

The original comment should

The original comment should probably in a frame within the frame of the response (optional quotation). This would allow the elimination of the indentation. The way it's set up now, someone can respond a few weeks later, and it'll end up in the middle of the thread. Most people will expect to see the newest responses at the bottom.

Comments

It nests replies to comments. Do you think all comments and replies should be inline?

Is this thing nesting

Is this thing nesting reponses in the middle of the forum? That's kinda confusing, anyway we can change that?

While posting should be

While posting should be easy, I think people should also be accountable for what they say. If the forum permits anonymous posting, you'll get all kinds of stupidity and drivel posted. Very few people will go through the trouble of re-registering so they can make unnecessary comments. I'd recommend against anonymous posts.

keep it as easy as possible to post

As Suzi above me stated, there is no way to prevent anonymity, trying to do so will make it more difficult for everyone to post. As the effort required increases, participation will decrease. It needs to be as easy as absolutely possible to post for comment culture to thrive.

they still can in a way...

if someone really wants to stay anonymous they can create a user account that lists only their spy-name details. while i would not encourage this type of behavior for anyone (ha!) it is an option for the scaredy-cats.

so - no anonymous posting per se. users must at least create a fake identity. my 2 pesos.
