Are college kids just plain dumb?
Right off, I'll appologize. This is probably a bit of old news for most of you (and me too, actually), but I just picked up on this post on fresnocentric, which is basically a response to this video from The Collegian. It's already been touched on over at the Beehive.
I'm gonna hold off on the whole "Tower is/is not a scary, dangerous, place" argument, because that could go on forever and the only way to really change minds is to drag people down here by the shirt collars and even that might not convince them.
I'm more interested in Joy's point about the disconnect between Fresno's cultural happenings (in downtown and the Tower) and the stuff that's happening at Fresno State. I'm sure I experienced some of that myself when I was there, but this video make college kids look kinda dumb. These guys should totally be plugged into what's happening in Fresno. Shouldn't they? Part of it must be proximity. If Fresno State was still on McKinley, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. And part of it could be that those of us down here aren't doing our part to get the word out.
So, this is an opened-ended post. What would make things better? More than that, does anyone really care?

Wow... That was one of the weakest excuses I've heard lately. I'll put it out there, as a Rogue Staffer I am willing to work with the Collegian to help them better represent the Rogue Festival, but I have yet to hear from them in regards to this.
I think there's an apathy we're trying to fight here and it's like herding cats on ice... art and culture happen everywhere in Fresno and it takes a community wide effort to keep it going.

As an MCJ major at Fresno State, this just makes me sad. The Collegian needs to smarten up.
