Pools

It is soon the start of swimming season and with that comes responsibility.
On the news tonite was another report of a drowning in a pool. In the past week 3 kids have died or nearly died drowning in pools. One pool was reported to have been covered in leaves. So the child wasn't easily found.
This is very sad news.
As the owner of a pool this is something I take seriously. When you own a pool you have certain required duties. With pool ownership you must take certain steps to keep out unwanted guests. You must also keep your pools clean and the water clear.
I don't have children, but there are children in my neighborhood. We have 3 locked gates keeping out unwanted guests. We have a fence all the way around the pool.
When you own a pool keeping it clean in important for many reasons. You need to be able to see the bottom of the pool, in case someone does drown. If you can't see where they are located, you can't pull them out to safety. Plus, dirty pools are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. That is another health and safety issues that has been in the papers this past week as well.
The past couple weeks should have been a wake-up call for pool owners. I just hope that more people take responsibility for their pools. Prevention is really important here.
My thoughts and prayers to the victims and families of the drownings this week.
