Those rabble-rousers at the Discovery Center are taking their beef with the City to the public.

According to the Discovery Center's business web site:
As you may know, the Discovery Center Museum was badly damaged by fire on May 20, 2000. While we managed to save the Indian Basket Collection, all exhibits were lost, and all small animals tragically died of smoke inhalation.

The Discovery Center received approximately $200,000 from insurance proceeds, which was subsequently used to continue operations, and as a down payment on property directly across the street to house administration and provide classroom space.

Approximately five years after the fire, the City of Fresno now claims that insurance proceeds should have been paid to the City and is seeking financial remedy for approximately $144,000 ($113,000 for structure and $30,000 business continuance), a remedy that will most likely end the Discovery Center's existence.
