Re: Since When

Blackstone and Bullard is certainly North Fresno. I would consider it to be North Central Fresno, due to Blackstone Avenue being the divider between the East and West segments of town.. And Herndon is not the new divider for North Fresno, it's still Shaw and will be for some time...

Apparently not North enough...

Champlain & Perrin

Yeah- it really sucks that i can't even find a decent bookstore or any bookstore south of herndon any more i was so surprised at how divided this city has become.

Sam's Pizza on Chestnut and Olive

It's a very underrated pizza parlor. Their pizza tastes like Me N Eds but better. It's really a great place to take your family. But because it's in a not that great part of town they are not getting that much bussiness. And it sucks because they deserve to have every Fresnan eating there. Try it once, and you'll love it...

Sportmart was bought out by

Sportmart was bought out by Sports Authority. Instead of closing Sportmart they just changed the name. The stores were pretty much interchangeable.

Famous Guest's picture

Trader Joe's was gonna move there...and then didn't.

It's still kinda a sore point.

Sports Authority

Why are there two Sports Authority stores right across the street from each other? Why can't one be located elsewhere?

A Trader Joes in the tower

A Trader Joes in the tower district would be nice.
2nd choice would be Hunan. Luby's too but I know they won't move.

Still north...

Still north to me...or more north than I feel like going most days.

But yeah, putting everything out on Champlain & Perrin serves most of Fresno just fine.

I'm just of the illusion that us folk south of Herndon still matter at least a little bit in the grand scheme.

Another Vote For The Hunan

For such a great restaurant, they have a horrible location. Clearly the best Chinese food that Fresno has to offer.

I also agree with the Dollar Tree in the Tower, that should be a Trader Joes.

Not a big fan of Sequoia, too many old farts who like Bachman Turner Overdrive. They should turn that place into a bier-haus.

Babylon --- Who goes there?

MWB's picture

since...

a huge new part of Fresno was built that extended the town several miles to the North and East...

(...the truth IS out there,
-I hear NASA has declined the offer to send out a rover... they felt that bicycling to the site would be more informative and helpful for us...
-btw? they want a report by Wednesday, chop-chop chief...)

...is Blackstone & Bullard NOT North Fresno?

urban outfitters and the dirty olive

Oh do I ever love this store, but it really lost its urban appeal sitting in the middle of a sprawling parking lot. Even though its facade is just wonderful and the new part of Fashion Fair looks nice (minus the lack of underground parking).

I also think I might give the Dirty Olive a chance if it also wasn't sitting in the middle of a suburban shopping center. Call me ridiculous, but why would you put a bar in the middle of a place where you can only access by car? I think it would do much better in the Tower, on Olive. Within walking distance of many residences.

future

While it hasn't moved in yet, Rasputin Records should either sell out and move to north Fresno, or fit nicely into the tower district/downtown.

god that thing is ugly. yes, uglier than the vacant shell that sat for years before DT moved in. at least the shell didn't radiate that sickly green light for blocks and blocks.

Hunan Restaurant

I second the motion from BandHdad. My brother has traveled frequently in China for about 15 years, and he's told me that Hunan is the best Schezwan and Hunanese food he's ever had in North America, and that counts LA, SF, NY, Chicago and the like. The folks who own and operate are incredibly accommodating; they'll make anything you want any way you like, and make it well. Not pricey, either. But the location just stinks.

J & C

J & C House of Records!

Close second: Chicken Man.

Full Circle is a good one, but I go there a lot -- so I guess that doesn't count. I wish I went to J & C more.

Bangkok Authentic Thai Food

Bangkok is at the corner of Ashlan and Blackstone, next door to the 7-11. Tiny parking lot that's a nightmare to maneuver a car any bigger than a Mini Cooper....inconvenient as all hell to get to.

Still...i'd eat there every day if i had the $$$

Misplaced Restaurant

Hunan Restaurant tucked in between SaveMart and Longs on the Southeast corner of Cedar and Herndon has the best AUTHENTIC schewan and Hunan style food ANYWHERE around Fresno. It's way back in the breezeway, and nobody can see it. The owners say the landlord won't let them put a sign out front... might blight McDonald's (yuck!) or BJ's Kitchen's business!!! Give it a try, ask for the Hunan menu...

BandHDad's picture

Chris' Meat Market

I really feel the proper location of this wonderful established restaurant would fit great between Dai Bai dang and Fuzio's in front of the Edward's Movie Theater.

Chicken Man

Chicken Man would do so much better if it weren't hidden in that weird Marks/Clinton/Weber bermuda triangle.
