The
California Supreme Court decided today that mayors don't have the authority to override state law. The marriages performed in San Francisco by Mayor Newsom have been nullified by the court. This ruling was pretty much expected, and should probably be welcomed. We wouldn't want Bubba to think he had the authority to prohibit gay couples from adopting children, for example.
What is to be decided later this year is whether state laws defining marriage as a union between an man and a woman are unconstitutional.
Several pro-gay marriage groups are holding a peaceful rally today at 6:30pm, at City Hall. You're encouraged to dress up like the big flaming queen you know you are.
