Because the best art comes from illegal taxes

The Fresno Arts Council and others will receive $2 million of ill-gotten funds to do god knows what with. It's apparently the dregs of the 1997 "Arts to Zoo" sales tax that was ruled illegal eight years ago. The Zoo received $1 million from the tax, and used it to build an orangutan habitat.

No doubt the money will be squandered on something like street banners that say "Fresno Loves Art!" If we had our way it would all go to Fresno Filmworks so they could fix up the Crest and show art films more than once a month.

In honor of Reel Pride, which starts today, the Bee has a bunch of articles on how Fresno has no independent film (that graphic looks awful familiar). Too bad the articles are from 2002! Is this an attempt to demonstrate their ace film coverage? Frankly it was confusing; you don't expect the stories on the front page of a news website to be 5 years old. Maybe if we weren't still drunk from last night this would make more sense.

Speaking of drunk, see you all tonight at the Reel Pride opening gala!
