This week in Famous we review the new Tower restaurant
Senses and find it's way better than the Long John Silver's it resembles. Plus
election reactions from your friends and neighbors and our monthly guide to
downtown Art Hop. The Bee has a nice article on some
digital art happening at the TW Patterson building and elsewhere.
Reality TV Roundup: A Clovis family gets an
extreme makeover- kids included. This is the second Valley edition of the fix-your-ugly-ass show, and we can only assume ABC won't stop until we all have a chin implant. If you're a rapist, don't go on
Blind Date. The British introduce the first ever
decomposing corpse reality show. Have a terminal illness? You could be on TV!
Some of you might be in the mood to learn just how red the Valley runs. We finally finished Mark Arax's
The King of California and highly recommend it. It's the story of JG Boswell and his family's cotton empire. Boswell is the largest farmer in the world and the book details how his family imported the plantation culture to the Valley, got the government to pay for its irrigation needs, and changed the geography of the entire region. It's enlightening to see how much power Big Ag wields, and why an area with so many poor minorities still votes like it's filled with rich white people.
Don't rest on your laurels lamenting the literal translation of the Bible, protest! Total nutjobs Focus on the Family are sponsoring a horrific event called
Hate Makes People Vote "Love Won Out" that teaches people homosexuality is "preventable and treatable." All day Saturday, from 7am to 5pm, the good folks of
Marriage Equality California and
Queerfresno.com will be out there letting people know they don't need to be "fixed." Join them.
